Changing the Perception of ADHD

We have ADHD. We refuse to accept that it is a "deficit" or a "disorder". We are not flawed. We are heroic dreamers who imagine and create.

Brenda, Yes, she's intelligent. The school psychologist says when the other kids are out playing tag she's analyzing a leaf or focused on something with great thought. Also, I asked them to run her through an IQ test and she scored in the…

Hi Jodi - Seems like lots of ADHD kids have trouble either making or keeping friends. My kids would often resort to what I call "bringing home strays" - making friends with kids no one else would play with. It seems that unfair attention…

School Age Children - Troubles with Friendship

Hello. I have a daughter who is almost 10 years old and has ADHD. She is the sweetest, most positive little girl you could imagine. Negative comments seem to bounce right off of her. The problem is that I'm not sure they are "bouncing off" and she has no friends. I believe it's because of the ADHD.In kindergarten her teacher couldn't get her to sit still so the teacher tried 2 techniques without mentioning them to my husband and I. Both of the techniques helped my daughter stay focused, but…See More

Kim, I also have both ADD and ADHD children, both girls. The ADHD child is similar. I agree that it's important to reinforce within her that she's a valuable child who just looks at things differently. In that respect I think my family is…

Is ADHD a Disorder?

Love Dr. Edward Hallowell's book, "Delivered from Distraction." And love what he says, "ADHD's only a distraction if it gets in the way of living your life." Some days ADHD's my gift. Other days, well, I'm not quite so sure! LOL

Just me and not my kids

Am I the only one out there who does the ADHD thing but whose kids don't? Well, maybe one grandkid out of the seven's "got it." He, of course, lives with me and his grandfather. Hmm. Maybe it's catching after all.
